Weee!  Today I woke up to the sound of the doorbell ringing.  At first I decided to just ignore it and continue sleeping when a thought occured to me--causing me to jump out of bed and answer the door.  And there it was: the delivery man with my brand new shiny ipod.  It was my birthday present to myself and it finally arrived!  Huzzah!  I've been playing around with it all day.  It's the newest model: 20 GB with a click wheel   And I got it for the student discount PLUS a free engraving.  It says "my preciousss" on the back.  XD  And I had to register it and name it so I named it "teh pretty" cuz that's what I'd been calling it all morning.  I think I scared my sister.  She kept giving me wierd looks... o_O

It's supposed to hold 5000 songs but so far I've only got 163.  I need to find new music...so if anyone has any recommendations, let me know.

OMG *squee*!!!!! Mimi is the best friend in the world! [20 Jul 2004|10:17pm]
[ mood | excited ]

Last year, I was out of town for Mimi's birthday and had to miss out on her big Cotillion, so I promised her I'd be here this year for her birthday.  Well, throughout the summer, my Regina friends and I have been trying to plan a road trip to visit some friends up in Wisconsin.  So of course, the weekend of Mimi's birthday is when everyone decides to visit Nicole and Laura in Wisconsin.  I sadly had to turn down the road trip cuz a promise is a promise and I've been friends with Mimi since the 5th grade.  I told Mimi about the road trip and how I said no and her response was this:

spifftacular tig: hey--what time is your shindig on saturday?
MiMMeRz24: well its just ice cream somewhere... after my dinner w/ family
MiMMeRz24: so like...8ish
spifftacular tig: okie
MiMMeRz24: =)
spifftacular tig: hehe, so i got invited to go out of town that weekend...
spifftacular tig: ROAD TRIP
spifftacular tig: but i said i can't cuz i promised i'd be here this time :-P
MiMMeRz24: =O awww road trip!
MiMMeRz24: noooooooo
MiMMeRz24: you passed up a road trip??
spifftacular tig: haha, do you want me to go??
MiMMeRz24: i'm not that special, go on a road trip! ill take you out personally
MiMMeRz24: lol, well it sounds like fun
spifftacular tig: lol
MiMMeRz24: i don't want you to miss it
MiMMeRz24: wheres it to
spifftacular tig: visiting my friends nicole and laura up in wisconsin (they work at a boyscout camp)
MiMMeRz24: haha
MiMMeRz24: so wow, you're passing up a ROAD TRIP to a BOYS CAMP
MiMMeRz24: you're nuts
MiMMeRz24: i'm making you go
MiMMeRz24: thats my bday gift

I luff her!  So yeah, ROAD TRIP!!!!  This should be interesting...whenever I'm with my Regina girls, there's never a dull moment.  Expect plenty of picspam after that.  And I get to make good road trip mixes...eeeeexcellent.

OMG *squee!*  My friend Mimi dropped of my birthday present today and she got me three excellent pairs of fun earrings, a beach towel, fun pillow, and a SLAP BRACELET!!  I've been playing with it non-stop.  It's black and has a charm hanging off of it.  The charm is one of those bunnies and it says, "your anger makes me happy."  I luff it.

And it totally plays in with what I got/am planning to give Mimi for her birthday next Saturday (we're exactly a week apart).  I was at Strange Cargo yesterday and found a pack of Saved By the Bell (the original cast) trading cards.  So I've decided that her gift is going to have the whole "I love the 90s" theme to it.  I'm gonna see if I can try and find a tamagotchi.  Those babies were kick ass.  I used to have 5 of them cuz relatives kept giving them as presents, but I lost them all.  *sniffle*  Danny's in Japan right now...maybe he could hook me up...

I'm very tired right now but stupid me was in the room when my dad was watching The Ring.  I can't handle scary movies and only caught the end, but I saw enough to scare me shitless.  Damn him.

Jeana and Katelyn just left.  It was nice to have them visit..I hadn't seen or really talked to them since school ended back in May--which is odd, considering Katelyn was my roommate and Jeana used to live just down the hall for the schoolyear.  They were here for two days.  We went out to eat A LOT, went to the zoo (it was free), and went down to Bellmont to go to all the vintage/thrift shops.  I found that Strange Cargo store that I keep hearing Darren and Sam talk about in interviews.  Random fact about Strange Cargo--Jack Black's entire wardrobe for High Fidelity was from that store.  They had this great shirt that said "Dental techies do it with their hands" that I wanted *so* bad, but it was way too big.  I ended up getting a pink hoodie sweater that I was going to paint on.  After that we went to get some of Katelyn's favorite "iced drinks" at Planet Smoothie, go back on the train and headed home.

By the time we got to Howard station, I realized that I didn't have my bag with the sweater in it so I ran back to the train.  A security guard stopped the entire Red Line so I could run in each car to see if my bag was there.  No such luck.  The guard was very nice which was surprisingly.  I was a bit embarrassed to have the entire train stop for me though, since it was rush hour and a lot of commuters coming home from work were waiting around on the platform...

Liz suggested I maybe left it somewhere else, cuz she didn't remember me having the bag on the train.  After that I remembered I had put it on a table in Planet Smoothie waiting for my drink, and I left it there when I got up to pay, and forgot to grab it.  I tried calling there, but no one is answering the phone.  I might just have to go back to Bellmont anyways, cuz I am feeling the need to check out some more stores I haven't been in yet.  I need more funky jewelry.  But I still want my sweater back..*sniffle*

Hmm...so I just dyed my hair purple and I'm not sure how I like it...I bought a deeper violet than I usually do, so since my hair is naturally black, it kind of blends in and you can't tell it's a different color from far away.  I kind of like it when you can just catch a hint of the color in the sunlight, but I'm so used to having such bold colors that contrast to the black that it's odd.  Eh, it'll lighten up as it fades out back to the bleached color anyways.  It just seems so dark and I'm feeling all summery.

I'll try and take a picture of it tomorrow since I get to get all dressed up for a play.  :)

LMAO!  I just checked my voicemail and my friend Stephanie left a message asking if I knew anyone who she could get a fake ID from or if I could make her one with my photoshop-y skills.  After laughing for a good while I found myself wishing I had access to the proper materials so I could make fake IDs.  It'd be a great way of getting extra cash.

And that concludes my small amusement for today.

*grumblegrumble* PPFamily posted new tour dates and there's STILL no Chicago show *grumblegrumble*

Today was an "eh" day.  Went to work and was about to pass out due to lack of food and still being sick.  I got paid today, though, which made my suffering a little more worth it.  Granted, by next week I'll  have blown all that money.  Meh..

I went to the library and cleaned out their CD collections.  I really love my library.  They have a large and surprisingly ecclectic music selection to choose from.  They had the newest Kill Hannah CD which

I've been trying to get for months (YAY!), I got some Bowie, Rufus Wainwright, Sondre Lerche, Roswell soundtrack, Velvet Goldmine soundtrack...and this random CD that had a picture of a guy with a mohawk on the cover, so I got it.  I also rented The Dangerous Lives of Altar Boys which seems like a cool movie.  It involves Catholic school girls, nuns, and tricksy boys.  Story of my life.

Lalala...what else is new in my life...oh!  So I started to read Wicked (again) and I'm determined to finish it this time.  I don't really like it that much still.  I like the concept of it, but there's a lot of wanton sex that I didn't think existed in Oz.  I dunno, perhaps it bugs me cuz I grew up reading the original Oz series and my Grandparents are from Kansas (I've got pictures of me with them walking along the Yellowbrick Road)...it's almost as if my childhood is being tainted or something.  I don't want that ugliness in my childhood.  But I WILL finish the book!  Who knows, the prologue was interesting...maybe it'll get better.

Katelyn, Jeana, and Jeana's friend from CBC are visitng this weekend.  Should be fun.  Jeana wants to see a Cubs game.  The Taste of Chicago also starts this Friday.  I'm so excited.  For those of you who don't know what it is, the Taste is this HUGE festival thing that happens every summer.  A bunch of restaurants will set up booths downtown on Columbus (right in front of the School of the Art Institute) and you go there and eat your heart out.  It's glorious.   I can't wait.  There's such a huge selection from American to Italian to Greek to Japanese to Chinese to Indian to Ethiopian to Thai to Afgan food.  Can you tell I'm excited?

Ravinia: Ben Folds & Rufus Wainwright [19 Jun 2004|08:13pm]
[ mood | crazy ]

Heh, so apparently my allergies were worse than I thought...I ended up going to the doctor this morning cuz my tongue felt swollen.  Now I get to take fun drugs that knock me out for a few hours at a time.  The good news about all of this was I got to sleep in this morning and skip work.

Anyways, for those of you who didn't know, I went to Ravinia last night to see Ben Folds and Rufus Wainwright.

Ravinia picspam )

The concert was a lot of fun.  The place was packed--not only were the Pavillion tickets sold out, but so were the lawn tickets.  We took the Metra to the grounds and found a little spot among the hundreds of people gathered there.  It was really nice.  We had plenty of room and we had a little picnic.  You couldn't see Ben or Rufus from where we were, but you could hear them loud and clear.  They were both AMAZING.  They're so talented.  I love them both, but I think I love Rufus just a little bit more.  I liked that it was just such a laid-back night.  There wasn't the tension that you get from a rock concert where half the time you're fighting other people off just so you can remain standing.  It was a night of good fun.  We ate, listened to music, let our inner-pyros out with the citronella candle, and we even ran into Heidi and Emily from highschool.  Heidi's my new best friend.  The whole night me and Sarah were saying how alchohol would complete the night.  Enter: Heidi with her bottle of rum and coke.  Hehe.  After the concert we took the train back and picked up Liz's boyfriend James who is visiting her for the weekend.  And that was last night's adventure.

Just got back from the concert.  It was a ton of fun.  I'll write more about it tomorrow cuz I'm completely exhausted (been up since 5:30 am).  For now I'll just leave you with these thoughts:

- Icebreakers' Liquid Ice mints are POWERFUL!

- Playing with fire is fun.

- When going to Ravinia, an outdoor fest, one should think ahead and take allergy medicine as to avoid a sore throat and not being able to swallow properly.

- Rum and coke does not help with allergies...Smirnoff works just fine though.  ;)

movies 'n stuff [16 Jun 2004|11:46pm]
[ mood | chipper ]

I just finished watching Mystic River.  Wow.  I'm not the biggest Sean Penn fan in the world, but wow.  The man was Brando good in that.  Definately deserved the Oscar.  Same with Tim Robbins.  Excellent acting and the directing was excellent as well.  The part that sold me, though, was when I read that Brian Helgeland had adapted the screenplay.  I think he's becoming one of my favorite screenwriters.  Good director, too.

Anywho...I'm in the mood to make icons, but I don't know what type of icons I want to make.  Any suggestions?

I want it to be Friday.  I'm supposed to go to Ravinia fest with Liz, Clara, Bridget, and Sarah to see Rufus Wainwright and Ben Folds.  I'm excited.  It's an outdoor thing, so we're gonna have a little picnic.  Should be fun as long as I don't get attacked by bugs.  Now I have to just figure out what to wear...I need a good quote to put on a t-shirt or something...

Oh!  So who wants to hear a funny story about Liz?  Most of you have heard me mention her...she's about 4'11" with HUGE blue eyes, so we've affectionately given her the nickname "Frodo."  Anywho, she was downtown with her boyfriend and another couple when they were approached by a midget asking for money.  Apparently, the midget looked on the other side of James (Frodo's boyfriend) and saw Frodo standing there and said, "Oh, another little person!  I don't feel alone anymore!"  *cackles*  Liz was called short by a midget!!

And I'm spent.  Goodbye.

Meh, I'm losing my touch.   I went out with Liz, Bridget, Sarah, and Carolyn to see Stepford Wives.  Then we went to Steak 'n Shake to get some food.  At about 12:55 am I realized I didn't have my keys, so I had to call home and wake my dad up.  He said he'd leave the door unlocked.  No problem.  Then around 1:20ish I get home and only the screen door is unlocked.  I had to call home to get my dad to open the door, drawing attention to the hour I was getting home AND waking up my mom (NOT something I wanted to do as she was in a bad mood all day).  Not as smooth as I used to be...

Muahahahah..I am evil.  My sister came home and saw that I was busy de-wallpapering my room, so she came in and grabbed my Baby Whalie.  (I got this stuffed beluga whale when I was 6 that I named Whalie.  Last year I bought a key chain with a mini stuffed beluga whale on it that I named Baby Whalie so I could take it to school with me and it'd be a reminder of home.)  Sara likes to beat up Baby Whalie, so she grabbed him and started punching him while laughing.  He started squeaking--and he's not a squeaky toy.

So, naturally, I waited till she left and snuck into her room... )

Removing wallpaper is a bitch.  Especially when one has to do it by themselves.  I don't know how Thom from Queer Eye can re-do houses so quickly when he usually has to get rid of ugly wallpaper.

I've got two weeks till Katelyn, Jeana, and Jeana's friend come up to visit, which means I've got two weeks to de-wallpaper and then paint my room.  My mom is acting like this is some unneccesary project and can't understand why I would want to re-do my room.  My room has been pink with ugly wallpaper since 1993.  I picked out the wallpaper when I was 8 years old.  I would think my tastes have changed since then...and for some reason my mom thinks my room looks fine.  This is the same woman who in the past three years has gone through the rest of the house and completely re-done EVERYTHING.  My room has literally been the only room that hasn't been changed.  Not to mention, my mom forced me to help her paint the rest of the house whenever I was on a break from school, but when it comes to my room I'm not allowed any help at all.  She refuses to help me, and when I mentioned inviting some friends over to kind of have a paint party, she flat out said "no" and started yelling at me.  Does that make sense to you?  I don't think so.  But meh, she's away all day at work anyways, so I could easily invite people over and we'd be done before she came home.  Plus, my mom seems to hate all the colors I want to paint my room.  I wanted to paint it red and she said that I'm barely home and she's not going to have a red room in the house.  I said I wanted to paint it purple, then, cuz my aunt and uncle had extra paint from when they painted their apartment.  My mom said the color looked nice in their apartment but would make my room look too small and dark.  WTF?  The only color she actually agreed upon was lime green--which I do not want in my room.  I'm almost at the point of just painting my room black just to piss her off.  I mean, I'll only have to live with it for the summer and then I'll be back at school.

I've definately noticed that I'm a lot angrier and rebellious when I'm home.  At school I rarely get angry and am a lot less reckless.  Gotta love being home...
